Peace Island demo release delayed until November 30

We were on-target for the release of the PI demo on the 17th, until the 30th of October, when we realized that Liz was in her last hours.

As long-time followers of this project know, I am loathe to take ANY time away from developing Peace Island – but this was a rare exception. I needed to mourn, mentally & physically.

Understand: one of the earliest indications that we were creating something special, was when Liz leapt onto my desk, touching her nose to the screen – because she recognized one of the cats that was on-screen.

24 hours later, I started suffering the effects of an ulcer that had been apparently developing for weeks. While I do my best to laugh at illness and fatigue – this also prevented me from sleeping for two nights straight. I also had to adopt a fluid-only diet that made me so weak, I was thereafter bedridden for another three days.

When I finally got back to work, I realized that the Unity LTS we had been using was prone to security concerns – requiring ANOTHER Unity update – which included another complete re-build of the project library (a process that typically requires 15 hours.)

Add to all of this that I had been put on a new regimen of the medication that allows my brain to function (such as it does,) and you’ve got 8-10 days that were unfortunately lost. (BTW: this all goes along with the « Daylight Savings Time » bollocks, which means that the sun has well set by 4:15 PM here in Maine. It’s something I’ll never really get used to…)

But: we were now back to work, as of the 10th of November

Laura is doing a final bug sweep, and I am winnowing down « The List » as best I can. My current focus is adding the final bits of Audio, Video, and written material required for the Beta.

Unfortunately, the most recent version up on Steam still contains bugs related to how the new Unity LTS handles rigidbodies – but we’ll have a fix up for those issues – and more – within 72 hours.
