Update 1.07 is now live

Hi everyone! Patch 1.07 is now live!

This is probably our biggest and most feature-rich patch to date. Aside from fixing various bugs — negative stats (like attack speed), crafting and inventory issues, crashes in the city, and all sorts of other annoying things — we’ve added plenty of gameplay improvements and new game content!

New Content

Hairstyles and Beards

The first content update is cosmetic. Tristan now has more hairstyle and beard options, so he can be rightfully called the dandiest man on Grayshaft! Or just terrify even seasoned hobsters with his looks — however you want to play it.

This dungeon was discovered in an abandoned mine near Nerest’s house. An ominous portal in the ritual halls beckons to adventurers. Prepare to fight through ten levels across three different areas with gradually increasing difficulty. Every time you enter the portal, the enemies, rewards, and chest locations change. Praise the Seven that you have a compass — it’s very easy to get lost in these intertwined tunnels.

Keep an eye on the time! If you linger longer than necessary, the enemies will grow stronger. Continue to overstay your welcome, and the dungeon guardian will appear to swiftly send you straight to The One!

The main treasure of this place is the mythical Lazar Stones, which you can find on every level. Our distant ancestors used these crystals as offerings, hoping for generous gifts in return.

If you gather enough, you can get a unique reward — the Royal Guard Armor. This armor was forged back in Grayshaft’s golden age, when the King himself favored the Fifth Island. Back then, the armor embodied honor, strength, and courage. Who knows, maybe you’ll be able to restore it to its former glory.

The Royal Guard Armor’s stats make it a great fit for any stage of the game — it can be upgraded at a work bench using the faction armor of the Order of the Seven or the Free Hunters, pushing its stats to the limit. Those who are more interested in pure profit will be able to exchange Lazar Stones for other valuable rewards as well.

Improvements

Aside from content updates, we’ve also added various quality-of-life changes that players have been asking for.

Universal Stash

A stash chest that you can now access not only from your house but also at faction bases and taverns.

Wagoners

Additionally, wagoners have now appeared on Grayshaft. These enterprising folks have hitched cows to carts and now can quickly and relatively comfortably take the hero where he needs to go — for a pretty penny, of course. Keep the distance in mind, though, or that penny might turn out to be a bit too pretty.

Sparrows

In the city itself, you can also find a guide who will take you to the desired quarter. They also require a fee, naturally.

Quest Sorting

For easier navigation, the region where a quest was acquired is now displayed alongside its name, and all quests can be sorted alphabetically, by the time they were received, or by the location where you picked them up.

Glossary

The character menu now features a Glossary, which includes three sections: Tutorials, Bestiary, and Characters.

In the Tutorials section, you can find all the materials explaining different aspects of the game. This comes in handy if you accidentally miss something or want to refresh your memory on specific mechanics.

The Bestiary holds information about the monsters you have defeated on the island. After the first kill, it shows how many more enemies of this type you need to slay to unlock additional details. Once you reach that number, the Study button will appear. Click it to view the monster’s stats and vulnerabilities, and to receive a small reward.

The Characters section accumulates information about the locations and faction affiliations of the Grayshaft denizens you meet. It will indicate whether a character is a trader or a trainer, as well as the exact skills they teach. Talking to an NPC once is enough to add them to the list. Naturally, you can also filter the list by various parameters.

If your save was made before the release of patch 1.07, you’ll need to talk to previously encountered characters again for them to appear on the list.

In-Game Help Center

Players often ask us for help with a specific bug via in-game messages. Frequently, it’s already been fixed in our current game build, but the patch with the fix isn’t ready yet. We could suggest how to solve it using console commands, but since all such messages are anonymous, we can’t contact you to help.

That’s why we’ve added a special Help Center inside the game. Under the Issues tab, we’ll try to outline the most common situations from bug reports and ways to solve them.

In the future, if we see positive feedback and interest from players, we plan to actively expand the other sections as well. Over time, this will let us form a comprehensive knowledge base about Of Ash and Steel and the world of the Kingdom of the Seven, right in the game.

A huge thank you to the players for actively using the in-game messaging system — it’s been incredibly helpful for finding and fixing various issues, as well as adding new, useful gameplay mechanics.

Of course, that’s far from everything; there are tons of other fixes and improvements in the patch.
