Revealing Our Largest Update Yet – Procedural Worlds

Hey there! It’s been a little while since our last update and we’re excited to share what we’ve been working on: The World Update. It’s still very much in the works but we hope to keep you updated in its progress as we develop it!

Procedural Levels

We have two major goals with the World Update

• Make levels feel different each time you play them
• Fill levels with points of interest that make it fun and rewarding to explore

Each time you launch a mission, you’ll enter a new sector of New Atlas. We’re converting all of our current regions to procedural biomes with as much variety as we can stuff in. Just in the desert you can find sand dunes, canyons, rocky arches, and more.

These areas will come with new side objectives and encounters, most of which will appear on your new minimap ! We’ll share more details on these encounters soon.

And of course, you’ll still be able to access the old levels whenever you want.

Missions

A few of our existing missions will undergo changes as they’re updated to work in procedural levels. Most notably, we’re reworking the beginning of Saxonite Transport to better flow with Mycopunk’s fast-paced gameplay. Prized Possession’s rolling power core will also be getting some much needed love.

We also have plans for some new missions which we’ll be working on after the World Update!

The Blitseg

Dinky little karts aren’t gonna cut it when you’re driving over New Atlas’s harsh terrain. Enter the Blitseg, a new high-speed hover bike that glides over rocky hills like human skin on an asphalt road.

Heavy Weapon Upgrades

Each heavy weapon is getting its own smaller set of upgrades! These weapons are also receiving a few other changes to make them more viable:

• Calling in a heavy weapon from orbit will supply you with a cache that lets you choose from your selection of unlocked heavies.
• Heavy weapons are no longer dropped when you die.
• Weapon beacons will spawn more frequently and are marked on your map.

We’re super excited for you to explore our procedural worlds — and we’ll need your help finding the inevitable swarm of bugs that come with such a large change! Keep an eye out for a public beta later this month (we hope) where you can try out these changes for yourself.
