The Shaman's Ark : # Update 1.3 — Japanese is Here, and the Ark is Growing
# Update 1.3 — Japanese is Here, and the Ark is Growing
Hey everyone,
The Ark has reached new shores. **The Shaman’s Ark is now fully localized in Japanese.**
It represents careful work, and a decision we’re proud we made. Japanese players have a deep, passionate community around atmospheric indie games, and they deserve a version of the Ark that feels like it was written for them, not translated at them. Every faction name, every piece of boss dialogue, every ambient story note — all of it went through multiple rounds of native review until it felt right. The Inverted Ones became 反転者たち. The Nest of the Seven Mouths became 七つの口の巣. The degraded, glitching speech of the lost became something that sounds genuinely unsettling in Japanese, not just in English. We’re really happy with how it turned out.
This update also brings a few fixes that players on wider screens have been waiting for. If you’re running an ultrawide monitor — 3440×1440 or similar — the UI should finally stay moored. The Options menu was getting clipped at 21:9 aspect ratios, and the battle ring could drift out of position. Both are fixed, and the fix reaches all 34 scenes in the game. On top of that, the graphics settings now show quality labels in your own language, and the resolution dropdown has been cleaned up to properly highlight your current setting when you open it.
The in-game map also got some love. The first time you opened it there was a small but noticeable stutter as everything loaded in — that’s gone now. We also fixed a visual artifact where the world would bleed through the edges of the map screen at certain aspect ratios, and the zoom and sound effects now behave correctly even when the game is paused.
Battles also run smoother now. We went through the fight system and cut down the overhead that was building up behind the scenes whenever combat started. The world quiets down properly while you fight, and comes back the moment it’s over. Nothing changes about how battles feel — they should just be cleaner.
We’re not done. We have something special coming to celebrate the Japanese release — a piece of **anime-style Shaman’s Ark artwork** that we’ve been sitting on for a little while. We’re very excited to share it. Watch this space.
Thank you for playing, and thank you for the patience while we kept building.
