A Game About Feeding A Black Hole : Electric Moons Mode – Patch 1.4.0 Changes
Electric Moons Mode – Patch 1.4.0 Changes
Electric Moons Mode – Patch 1.4.0 Changes
Hey there! We hope you are having a nice March! This week the game hit almost 2,500 reviews on Steam. A huge thank you to everyone who has played the game, left a review, and shared it with a friend or two.
So if you haven’t already please leave us a Steam review, it really helps us a lot!
New Game Mode!
This patch contains a new game mode called Electric Moons with a brand new mechanic called Electric Break. We tried to answer the question “What if the breaker was charged up and triggered the electric effect?”. Plus then we added moons because they are fun and we like to make fun things. The mode takes around 15-20 minutes to complete, but I bet our speed runners can do it in under 10.

What's Next for the Game?
Cory and I have begun working on our next game and we are partnering with two other solo indie devs to co-develop their games. More info to come soon.
A bit of a teaser is that all three games will be incremental/idle games, but will be exploring different themes and mechanics while taking the lessons we learned from making A Game About Feeding A Black Hole.
As we’ve ramped up work on those games we’ve naturally started to ramp down the amount of hours spent on A Game About Feeding A Black Hole. And a natural consequence is that some of our ideas and dreams for Black Hole simply are now too big for the amount of time our two person team can commit to them with the other games we want to make. So we wanted to update you on our current plans. Please note this is all subject to change.
What We're NO Longer Working On:
• We are not going to add Steam Workshop and Mods support. We did a bit of exploration in to this and while we think it could happen, we decided the amount of work involved in this would be too much for our small studio to do.
• Giant Grid Mode. Simply unfun in testing and as such we are not long going to add this mode
• Idle Mode. Similar to Mods this idea is fun, but the amount of work and custom development was just too high for Cory and I to do.
What We're Working On:
• Roguelike Mode. This patch contains a ton of back end changes which were aimed at making roguelike mode possible. Keep an eye out for the next play test for this mode (soon™).
• Radioactive Mode. I’m picturing a mode where you create giant radioactive clouds which basically allow you to passively sit back and watch them destroy everything. In my head this will be a pseudo idle mode.
• Community game mode ideas. If you have ideas for new game modes please let us know! No promises that we’ll add them but we have added a few of your ideas. Keep them coming!
• Community QOL requests and accessibility options
Speed Running Reminder:
We now officially have a
https://www.speedrun.com/A_Game_About_Feeding_A_Black_Hole
. We’d love to see more times submitted over there and maybe see if their world record can go sub 50 min.
As always, thank you for checking out our game. This game has changed both our lives and we can’t thank you enough.
Cheers,
Andy (Aarimous)
1.4.0 Patch Notes
• Added a new game mode “Electric Moons”This mode answers the question “What if the breaker was charged up and triggered the electric effect?”We also added moons because they are fun, and we like to make fun thingsThis mode takes about 15-20 min to completeWe are experimenting with a different layout of the tree so please let us know if you like this mode!
• Added a new Achievement for completing Electric Moons Mode
• Added an accessibility setting to disable the object from rotating on the screen
• Millisecond to the final time and main screen records
• Fixed a bug where the Star Electric damage was not scaling off the correct Electric Star Upgrades.
• Adjusted back end code and systems to allow Roguelike mode (new playtest for Roguelike mode coming soon)
• Removed game modes that we are no longer going to work on, these were placeholders modes and during testing we found the theme or game play to actually be unfun for us while testing them. The main example is Giant Grid Mode, it was a fun idea in our head, but when we actually made it the mode was quite boring to play.
